Kelly
Marks is the originator of the Monty Roberts Educational Courses
world-wide which first started in 1996 in Oxfordshire, England.
She is also the founder of 'Intelligent Horsemanship' an organisation
dedicated to bring the best horsemanship ideas together from around
the world in an effort to promote understanding and fair treatment
of horses at every opportunity.
Kelly is the popular equine problem solver featured on BBC!'s
'Barking Mad' reaching 7 million viewers and has recently featured
on a one hour documentary for National Geographical under the
Explorers Journal Label with world wide viewing figures of over
54 million. In November 2001 Kelly went out to work with wild
horses in the Namibian desert with extraordinary results. Channel
5, Discovery and Animal Planet are at this time negotiating for
the rights to own this incredible documentary. Kelly has now written
five books (as well as countless articles). Her first two "Creating
a Bond with your Horse" and "Leading and Loading" both sold over
50,000 copies. "Handling the Untouched Horse" and "Catching Made
Easy" were recently published and are already providing invaluable
to horse and pony owners. However, it is her March 2002 book "Perfect
Manners - How You Should Behave so Your Horse Does Too" that looks
likely to be the most popular.
Her father being a Lambourn racehorse trainer, Kelly has been
around horses her whole life. Her special interest has always
been psychology, both horse and human. She won Junior Show Jumping
Championships and qualified for the 'Young Rider of the Year'
before going on to be a Lady Jockey winning on both that flat
and over jumps and representing Britain a total of nine times.
Any success Kelly may have had she is well aware was due to the
generosity of horses and a strong emotional connection with them
rather than any great physical talent. In her last four years
of race riding she decided she "didn't like" using the whip anymore.
Whilst that may not have been the brightest move career-wise for
a jockey, she still won the two biggest races of her career in
that time 'The Trinifold Silver Clef' at Newbury and in 1995,
a European Ladies Championship in Vienna. She retired from race
riding directly after this event.
By this time Kelly has already met and started to work with Monty
Roberts who was so impressed by her talent and dedication he asked
her to put together a learning programme and become, in fact,
the first ever teacher of his methods world-wide. She was inspired
by the thought of all the horses and people that could be helped
by the use of his simple and yet revolutionary techniques. She
now has her own students across the world doing excellent work
with horses and she also lectures to various companies and education
institutions including regular meetings with A T Kearney, Berkeley
Square, London and Manchester Business School.
