How do horses learn?

What can we use to communicate with these wonderful, sensitive, intelligent animals that give us so much?

Come along to our workshop to gain some insight and understanding about why your horse acts as he does. Concentrating on groundwork skills, we begin with an informal lecture that explores what may cause your horse to act in a particular way and how you can best act in a manner that will make sense to your horse. Learn how to be clear, concise and consistent in a manner that will encourage your horse to want to be with you. Thinking about the ‘prey/predator’ relationship that man originally had with the horse, and the ‘fight or flight’ reaction that the horse uses to survive can bring new light on your relationship with him today.

Next we give you the opportunity to practise your communication skills on another human. This can be a great eye-opener and an invaluable learning experience. We then give you the chance to try out what you have learned with one of our horses and see the results for yourself. We encourage student participation and questions are welcomed throughout.

There is an underlying principle that there is a solution to every problem, and it is up to you to find a way that is right. You will be given ideas for some exercises to ‘play’ with your horse, increasing the trust and bond between you. The emphasis throughout is on positive thinking, giving you fresh ideas to form a deeper understanding with your horse, and enjoyment of each other’s company.

No experience is necessary to enjoy our workshops, and you do not need to own a horse. There is no ridden work involved. All that we ask is an interest in the horse/human relationship, and a desire to make the world a better place for the horse.
